Join a band of adventurers to create your own fantasy story instead of simply reading one.

Dungeons and Dragons (4th edition) is a tabletop roleplaying game that mixes high fantasy action with collaborative storytelling. Open to both first-time and experienced players between the ages of 12 and 25. Pre-rolled character templates will be provided to customize and jump right into the action, but characters created at home of level 1 to 3 are also welcome. The game will be casual and slow paced so players can learn the mechanics of the game, but veterans who want to help guide or even run their own campaign are encouraged to attend.

Interested in collectible card games, instead? Bring your Yu-Gi-Oh! or Magic: The Gathering decks and casually duel other players, or bring a tabletop game of your own to run.

Author and maker David Lang will be here to talk about his book, From Zero to Maker, maker culture, and answer questions. While you're here, tour the Library's 3D printing lab--the Design Spot.

This program is part of Book-to-Action series.

Book-to-Action is supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian.

About the book:

Are you possessed by the urge to invent, design, and make something that others enjoy, but don’t know how to plug into the maker movement? In Zero to Maker, David Lang explains how he became a pro maker after losing his job, and how the experience helped him start OpenROV—a community and product line focused on open source undersea exploration. It all happened once he became an active member of the maker culture. Ready to take the plunge into the next Industrial Revolution? This guide provides a clear and inspiring roadmap.

9th-12th graders are invited to come in during their lunch period (bring a bag lunch!) for a half hour discussion of the hottest new books. Though these weekly meetings have been planned to coincide with the School of Engineering and Science (SES) high school lunch period, homeschoolers are also welcome to attend. Facilitated by book blogger Patricia Mendoza of "2 Chicks on Books." Partially funded by the Pocket-Greenhaven Friends of the Library.
