This book is a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award recipient and features the writing of several African American men and women reflecting on their fathers and grandfathers. After sharing the book, we will study the award-winning illustrations by Javaka Steptoe that were created for this story using multi-media collage which bring the poems to life. Participants will then create their own collage inspired by someone close to their hearts using a buffet of materials like decorative papers, fabric scraps, wood shapes, and more. This free program from Sacramento’s Art Beast Studio is hosted by the Franklin Community Library.
