I like this book a lot. One reason why is because it illustrates the idea of how you shouldn't be forced to do something you don't want to because of peer pressure or because you need to maintain your reputation. Emily (the main character) shows this by going to the alternative prom she created for people to save money instead of the real prom.   Prom Kings and Drama Queens

The Fault in Our Stars
Review
There are a lot of young adult romance/reality novels out there. There is a lot of angst and drama and emotion, it's almost underwhelming. When I finally picked up this book, I didn't expect much more than a cliche love story with a Korean drama-style tragic ending. Mr. Green did indeed surprise me. Cancer is a painful topic for people (like me) who have seen its ugliness up close and personal. Death is a sobering topic for young people (like me) who really have no concept of life ending. Love is a universal subject that is often muddied by selfishness. This book twines all three together with an honesty that is quite rare.  The Fault in Our Stars
