Join a band of adventurers to create your own fantasy story instead of simply reading one.

Dungeons and Dragons (4th edition) is a tabletop roleplaying game that mixes high fantasy action with collaborative storytelling. Open to both first-time and experienced players between the ages of 12 and 25. Pre-rolled character templates will be provided to customize and jump right into the action, but characters created at home of level 1 to 3 are also welcome. The game will be casual and slow paced so players can learn the mechanics of the game, but veterans who want to help guide or even run their own campaign are encouraged to attend.

Interested in collectible card games, instead? Bring your Yu-Gi-Oh! or Magic: The Gathering decks and casually duel other players, or bring a tabletop game of your own to run.

Enjoy read-aloud performances of Nathaniel Hawthorne's short stories followed by discussions led by Sacramento State University English Professor Nancy Sweet in "Monomania, Mad Science, and Romantic Artistry: Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 'The Birth-mark' and 'The Artist of the Beautiful'"

For our first Hawthorne event, obsession and creative genius drive the hero of “The Birth-mark,” written in the 1840s. A doctor-scientist whose work borders on magic seeks the ultimate perfection of his wife though the removal of a crimson blemish from her cheek.

Inspired by Gothic classics, including Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Hawthorne's short tales delve into their characters’ aching quests to know and to master Nature, life, and death.

Join us as we will peer together into their haunting visions of creative force. Return October 19 for our follow-up reading and discussion of "The Artist of the Beautiful."

Shipwrecked and deserted by the crew of the ship they are traveling on, the Robinson family members find that they must learn o fend for themselves. Upon reaching land, they learn that the island on which they are stranded has giant fig trees, wild animals and hidden caves. The family sets up a new home and has many exciting adventures living off the land. I love this book. My other favorite is the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling  Swiss Family Robinson
